Somashekar took his firs steps in Bharaanayam under th tutelage of Guru.Smt.Dr.Suparna Venkastesh at Sai Arts International, Bangalore. He presented his solo debut in the year 2006, marking the beginning of his journey into the world of classical dance. He Obtained his Bachelor's degree in choreograhy through Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography, Bangalore under the able guidance of Dr. Maya Rao. He won a gold medal for securing 1st rank in Bharatnatyam. He completed his Masters's degree in Bharatnatyam from Bangalor University and Master's in Kathak from Reva University. He is also a "A" grade artist of Bangalore Doordarshan, Benguluru Kendra. Sowmya Somashekar started learning dance at a very tender age of 4 years under Smt.Vrinda Ravi later she underwent intensive training in Bharathanatyam and Kathak under the renowed Dance couple Nirupama and T.D.Rajendra at their Abhinava Dance Company, Bangalore. Sowmya did her debut as solo dancer in ther 2005. Inspired by her Guru she also learnt he Charis and Karana as mentioned in ancient treatise of drama the "Natyashastra". She is also a graded Artist of Banglaore Doorsdarshan, Bengaluru Kendra.
